Summer Thoughts and Blackberries
I'd been meaning to get out and pick the blackberries that have been ripening on the bushes for days. When I found the day a bit overcast yesterday I ventured out determined to harvest enough berries in one hour to be able to make our annual Blackberry Christmas jam.
As I approached the over grown brambles I thought that the tangled mess seemed to be invititng me to savor these last days of summer and take time to breathe, think and appreciate the past months.
My hands worked carefully to avoid the thorns and prickers of the branches and freed up my mind to relax and just enjoy the time. At one point I had picked every ripe blackberry in a section- or so I thought. When I squatted down to gather the berries from a lower branch I glanced up and from this perspective I could see under the leaves where I had been working. To my surprise there were a several more branches of luscious berries just waiting for me to harvest.
This is alot like parenting I thought. Just when you think you have exhausted all possibility, you are invited by your parent coach to look at things from a different perspective and you are able to entertain possibilities that you never thought were there.
"May you look at old issues of parenting from a different perspective this fall and discover a whole new harvest of possibilities just waiting there for your picking - and may you not get pricked too badly as you find the courage to reach in taste the fruit of your sweet child's potential"
